Dental Implants - Silver Spring, MD

Dental implants are a great way to replace missing teeth & also provide a fixed solution to having removable partial or complete dentures. Implants provide excellent support & stability for these dental appliances.

Dental implants are artificial roots & teeth (usually titanium) that are surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone by a dentist or Periodontist – a specialist of the gums & supporting bone. The teeth attached to implants are very natural looking & often enhance or restore a patient’s smile!

Dental implants are strong & durable & will last many years. On occasion, they will have to be re-tightened or replaced due to normal wear.

Reasons for dental implants:

  • Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth.
  • Resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting into missing tooth space.
  • Restore a patient’s confident smile.
  • Restore chewing, speech, & digestion.
  • Restore or enhance facial tissues.
  • Support a bridge or denture, making it more secure & comfortable.

What does getting dental implants involve?

The process of getting implants requires a number of visits over several months.

X-rays & impressions (molds) are taken of the jaw & teeth to determine bone, gum tissue, & spacing available for an implant. While the area is numb, the implant will be surgically placed into the bone & allowed to heal & integrate itself for up to six months. Depending on the type of implant, a second surgery may be required in order to place the “post” that will hold the artificial tooth in place. With other implants the post & anchor are already attached & placed at the same time.

After several weeks of healing the artificial teeth are made & fitted to the post portion of the anchor. Because several fittings may be required, this step may take one to two months to complete. After a healing period, the artificial teeth are securely attached to the implant, providing excellent stability & comfort to the patient.

You will receive care instructions when your treatment is completed. Good oral hygiene & eating habits, alongside regular dental visits, will aid in the life of your new implant.

Restoring your Smile with Dental Implants in Silver Spring

City Place Dental’s implant treatment options are comprehensive & flexible to meet your needs for the best in dental function & aesthetics. Depending on several factors, including bone health & number of missing teeth, Dr. Achikeh provides:

Mini Dental Implants

Often done in a single visit, mini dental implants are the new & low-cost way to secure your dentures, at less than half the cost of traditional dental implants! Even patients who have been told they aren’t candidates for traditional implants may benefit from mini implants. In some cases, your existing dentures can be used, making the procedure that much more affordable. Patients with difficulty with loose dentures can now stabilize them with mini implants.

3D Implant Surgery

The root or base of your dental implant is embedded into bone, like a natural tooth root, to provide for maximum stability & function of replacement teeth. This portion of the implant treatment process must be completed as accurately & efficiently as possible to ensure that your implant post properly integrates with tissue to create the most stable base.

Dr. Achikeh surgically places implants right at City Place Dental so patients do not have to spend time commuting between a specialist’s office for different parts of their treatment plan. We utilize 3D imaging in planning your treatment to obtain a visual on bone density & nerve position. In this way, implants are placed precisely in the most comfortable & long-lasting way possible.

Implant Crowns

Lost single teeth, whether just one or sporadic throughout your smile, can be securely replaced with a single implant post that supports a dental crown. Unlike traditional dental bridges which can replace a single tooth, implants & crowns do not negatively impact surrounding teeth & are longer lasting.

Implant-Supported Bridges

While a standard dental bridge is placed over existing teeth to close the gap created by a lost tooth, an implant bridge is secured with dental implants. These restorations more dependably replace groups of lost teeth & can be made to be as long as possible, to restore as many teeth as needed in an arch.

Implant Retained Dentures

Loose removable dentures can be a pain for many patients trying to find their way around total tooth loss. By adding just two dental implant posts & attachments, called locators, your removable dentures snap securely & easily into place. No more denture paste, embarrassing teeth slipping or having to severely restrict your diet to accommodate your prosthesis. Implant over dentures are a cost-effective way to increase the comfort & function of full dentures.
