Teeth Whitening In Silver Spring, MD

It’s normal for patients to want to improve the looks of their smile in any way that they can. As your trusted Silver Spring, MD, dentist and orthodontist, we at City Place Dental strive to do all we can to help you accomplish that. From braces to cosmetic dentistry treatments, we always want to have an option for our patients that can lead them to an even more beautiful smile. One very common way that a patient can make even a faded smile become more attractive is through our teeth whitening treatments.

About Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening (also known as bleaching) is a simple and non-invasive treatment that can change your tooth enamel’s color and give you a more attractive smile. Having whiter teeth is one of the top aesthetic concerns of most patients, which is why teeth whitening treatments are now in such high demand. Teeth whitening will only work on natural tooth enamel, which makes it important for us to evaluate replacing any old fillings, crowns, and other tooth restorations. If any replacements need to be made, they’ll be done so after the teeth whitening process so that they’ll match the newly-bleached teeth.

It’s important for us to note that teeth whitening isn’t permanent. A touch-up may be needed after every several years – potentially even more often if you consume a lot of staining beverages (such as coffee, tea, or wine) or you’re a smoker.

Reasons for Choosing Teeth Whitening

Some of the reasons you may want to get your teeth whitened include the following:

  • Your teeth are yellowing.

  • Your teeth have become stained due to medications.

  • Your outer tooth layer is wearing down.

  • Your teeth are suffering from fluorosis.

How Does Our Teeth Whitening Process Work?

For our teeth whitening procedure, you’ll need to come in for two appointments.

At your first visit with your Silver Spring, MD, dentist, impressions will need to be made of your teeth so that we can create clear plastic trays that are customized for your specific smile. During your second appointment with us, we’ll have these trays ready and we’ll make sure that they fit properly in your mouth. If needed, we’ll make adjustments to them.

After you’ve received your properly-fitting trays, we’ll give you a special whitening solution that should be used either twice-a-day for 30 minutes or overnight for a few weeks. It’s normal to experience some tooth sensitivity while you’re whitening your teeth, but it will stop soon after you’re finished with the tooth whitening process. We’ll make sure that you receive optimal care instructions for both your teeth and your trays so that you can achieve an even more beautiful smile.
